If you've been downtown, you’ve likely passed the Fire Administration building at 100 N. Academy Street. The town has owned the lot since 1961, and it was one of three downtown properties council looked at during last week's work session.

Staff recommended selling it though. The 1965 building has a few issues it would need to address, totaling $1 to $1.5 million in work just to make it usable again. In fact, the town actually started a sale process back in May 2025, but that was later withdrawn. Part of that proposal covered street work out front, which Lloyd's has since built at its own expense, making the former proposal outdated.

Council didn't make a final call. Instead, members voted to:

So it's not for sale yet, but it looks like the city is ready to do something with it.

Cary has a new French bakery! Originally announced back in June, La Pause Parisienne at 160 NE Maynard Road, has officially opened. They bake croissants, pastries, and breads fresh every day on site and the owners have a trained culinary background from schools in France.

Most of the menu is meant to be enjoyed on site, whether that's a croissant and coffee in the morning, a light lunch, or an afternoon pastry break. Their name is "the Parisian pause," so take a break and slow down here.

It’s a fairly slow week as far as updates go. One of the council sessions was cancelled and there was some talk with rezoning but nothing solid enough for the newsletter this week from what I saw.

Cary still holds the highest possible credit rating from all three major agencies after a recent update from Fitch, Moody's, and S&P. In plain terms, that keeps borrowing costs low for things like roads, parks, and water projects.

The weekend is when things really pick up but we’ve got a few picks this week as well.

Tuesday, September 29th: Canes Opening Night & Banner Raising - 5PM · Lenovo Center hosts your Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes as they raise their championship banner before hosting the Florida Panthers. On ESPN if you're watching from home.

Wednesday, September 30th: Mushroom Cultivating - 6:30PM to 8:30PM · DCP Academy Pavilion hosts a hands-on mushroom cultivation workshop. Ages 18+, registration required.

Thursday, October 1st: Live at Lunch: Savanna Bassett - 11:30AM to 1:30PM · Downtown Cary Park Academy Plaza hosts a country-pop songwriter with song placements on a few Nashville albums. Catch her on your lunch break.

Friday, October 2nd: Triangle Oktoberfest - Times Vary · Koka Booth Amphitheatre hosts a weekend of live music, Bavarian food, and German beers. Tickets from $20.

Friday, October 2nd: Movie Night: Frankenweenie - 6PM to 10PM · The Downtown Cary Park Great Lawn screens Tim Burton's Frankenweenie with activities and food trucks onsite. Free, bring blankets or chairs.

Friday, October 2nd: Pop Up Chorus Broadway: Hamilton - 7:30PM · The Cary Theater hosts a singalong night dedicated to the Hamilton soundtrack. Come ready to sing to your favorites with a room full of fans.
