Hello, and welcome to the first issue of Cary Digest, written by Mason.

I’d like to start by thanking Jake for trusting me with his publication as he moves on to a new chapter of his life. I would also like to thank all of you for the continued support. Many of you read me already at The Raleighwood Inbox and Jake and I received many kind messages last week after the announcement.

I’ll do my best to keep up the great coverage you’ve come to expect.

Anyway, here’s what you can expect in Today’s issue:

Coming this weekend to Downtown Cary, the 50th anniversary of the Lazy Daze festival returns with over 250 artists from across the country. The event will feature music on four stages, tons of food and drink vendors, and a new beer garden area in the center.

For the families attending there will be a Kid Market and play areas as well, just keep an eye out for the Cary Town Crier with any announcements throughout the day (you can’t miss him).

Parking is available and there will be a trolley service for the event as well. Check out the official festival guide at their website for more information.

If you’ve picked up a Cary Downtown Map, seen a local ad, or visited their website recently, you may have heard of “The Cheerful Looking Place on the Corner” as this new neighborhood restaurant is set to open any day now.

Lloyd’s Full Service on the corner of Chatham & Academy is a restored 1950s service station named after its founder K.M. Lloyd. It features a three-season patio, vintage-style decor, and even claims to be serving an all-day breakfast plate.

The first videos from locals have started to surface online, but while no official date besides “late August” has been announced, it appears be opening to the public very soon.

Both the Public Art Advisory Board and Greenway Committee are meeting this week, for anyone interested in listening to the meeting call the number list here. Generally the city says the meeting agendas are available online but they aren’t there at the moment. This agenda will have directions for submitting citizen comments, once it goes live.

The Art Advisory Board meets at 6:15PM on Wednesday, August 19th and the Greenway Committee meet 6:00PM Thursday, August 20th.

It is a bit quiet this week as well as back to school prep begins and festivals take over the major areas around town, but here are a few great things to look forward to.

All Week - Beyond the Booths: 50 Years of Lazy Daze Exhibit - 12PM Weekdays · Page-Walker Arts & History Center. See what goes on behind the scenes at this long running festival with this limited time exhibit leading up to the event, viewable during regular hours and extended during festival days.

Wednesday, August 19th: Summer Vibes Music Series - 6PM to 8PM · North Cary Park with Night Shift Band. Enjoy FREE Howling Cow ice cream and popcorn, while supplies last. There will be a few booth to stop by and brews from Bond Brothers. Bring your chairs and blankets, bug spray, and don’t forget to dance!

Thursday, August 20th: The Session Jazz + Open Jam - 8PM to 11PM · Bond Brothers Eastside has a weekly jazz session where the house band featuring Paul Creel and Donovan Cheatham play from 8-9PM and the jam opens to others after that. Check out their website for drinks, food, and parking at the venue.

Saturday, August 22nd: 80’s Party - 12PM to 7PM Saturday, 1 to 5PM Sunday · The Cary Theater hosts an 80’s music and games event, featuring music from the time period as well as classic board games like Clue, Operation, and Trouble. The event is free and might offer a nice way to cool off during the weekends events.
