Cary Named One of America's Best Places to Live for 2026-2027
Add another trophy to the case. U.S. News & World Report has once again named Cary the #1 place to live in North Carolina, and this year we landed at #11 in the entire country on its 2026-2027 Best Places to Live list. Cary also ranked 5th among medium-sized U.S. cities.
The rankings weigh quality of life, value, the job market, and healthcare access, and Cary scored especially well on value for a city its size, along with shorter-than-average commutes, low unemployment, and a strong job market anchored by nearby Research Triangle Park. Mayor Harold Weinbrecht called the recognition "especially meaningful," saying it reflects what residents experience here every day: safety, opportunity, and a real sense of community.
And we weren't the only Wake County town to make the list. Apex came in at #20 nationally. Not a bad neighborhood to be in.
Restaurant of the Week: Doc B's Restaurant
Fenton has a new go-to, and it is already packing the patio. Doc B's Restaurant opened at Fenton this spring, bringing its made-from-scratch, something-for-everyone menu to Cary for the first time. Founded in 2013 and named after founder Craig Bernstein's late father, "Doc B," the restaurant is built around warm, attentive hospitality, and Cary diners have noticed. It has quickly become one of the most talked-about new tables in town.
The menu is big and happily all over the map (in the best way): crave-worthy burgers and sandwiches, signature Wok Out Bowls, scratch-made pizza, entree salads, "very special" mains, and a locally curated craft beer list alongside wine and signature cocktails. The Cary spot leans into Fenton Square with a large patio under a pergola (heaters, misters, and fans included), plus an expansive bar and lounge right next to the movie theater.

Killer grilled shrimp and the wings, two popular ways to start

Town Updates
Aviation Parkway Widening Is Moving Forward
A major road project is coming to Cary's western edge. The state plans to widen Aviation Parkway from Chapel Hill Road in Morrisville to Interstate 40 in Cary. It's a 2.5-mile stretch that will become a four-lane, median-divided road, complete with bicycle and pedestrian lanes, a new sidewalk, and a 10-foot multi-use trail.
Why now? NCDOT projects traffic in the corridor could climb roughly 50% over the next 25 years, or about 24,000 vehicles a day by 2050. More than 70 property owners along the route may be affected, and the state held an information session this week to walk through what's ahead. Construction is expected to begin soon, so if Aviation Parkway is part of your commute, it's one to keep on your radar.

Friday, June 19 (Juneteenth)
World Cup: USMNT vs. Australia. Team USA chases a spot in the knockout round, kicking off mid-afternoon (around 3 p.m. ET, but confirm listings). Catch the free official Triangle watch party on The Lawn at American Tobacco Campus in Durham, 2 to 5 p.m., with food trucks and a beer garden.
NC Courage World Cup Watch Party (Cary). The Courage are hosting a local watch party for the U.S. match, so check carync.gov/events for the confirmed location and time.
Make the most of the day off. With Town offices closed for the holiday, downtown Cary is a good spot to wander. The splash pad at Downtown Cary Park is open, the greenways are nearby, and the gelato shop is right there too.
Saturday, June 20
Cary Downtown Farmers Market. 8 a.m. to noon on E. Park Street, next to Downtown Cary Park. Free, with local produce, meats, baked goods, and crafts sourced from within 100 miles.
Carolina Hurricanes Championship Parade. 11 a.m. in downtown Raleigh. Free. See Community Events for logistics.
Cary Juneteenth Celebration. 4 to 9:30 p.m. at Downtown Cary Park. Free, with live performances, food trucks, and vendors.
NC Symphony: "Mozart by Moonlight." 8 p.m. at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, part of the Summerfest series by Symphony Lake. Tickets required.
Sunday, June 21 (Father's Day)
Summer Family Series at The Cary Theater. Noon at 122 E. Chatham St., a family-friendly screening to start the afternoon.
Father's Day soccer. The World Cup continues with Spain vs. Saudi Arabia (noon ET) and Belgium vs. Iran (3 p.m. ET), easy to catch at home or at a Cary spot like Sports & Social in Fenton or Carolina Ale House.
Take Dad out on the water. The Bond Park Boathouse rents canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats on Bond Lake, a low-key Father's Day outing close to home. Check seasonal hours before you go.
Monday, June 22
World Cup: Argentina vs. Austria. 1 p.m. ET, a marquee group-stage matchup to start the week.
A new week at Downtown Cary Park. The park runs weekday fitness and family programming through the summer, so check the park's calendar for Monday's lineup.
